
The pre-conference workshop on Basic and Advanced Neonatal Ventilation was conducted as part of the 61st National Conference of the Indian Academy of Paediatrics, PEDICON 2024, at Amrita Hospital, Kochi. It was catered towards Pediatricians, Pediatric residents, Neonatologists and Neonatology residents, with an aim to improve the knowledge of the basics of ventilation and also provide a hands-on experience on the complexities associated with advanced neonatal ventilation.
The event was enriched by the presence of distinguished National faculty members specialized in this field including Dr Akash S (Jaipur), Dr Anita Singh (Lucknow), Dr Tejo P Oleti (Hyderabad), Dr Venkat R K (Hyderabad) and local faculty eminent speakers including National Neonatology President elect 2024 Dr Manoj V C (Trissur), Dr Leela Kamath (Kolenchery), Dr Fatima (Kochi), Dr Johny V F (Kochi), Dr Nelby (Thiruvalla), Dr Shanu C (Kochi), with Dr Jayasree C and Dr Perraju B from AIMS, Kochi. Esteemed Dr Sheikh Minhaj Ahmed (Mumbai) and Dr Akash S were the conveners.
Following an introduction by Pediatrician Dr Tony Mampilly (Kochi), there were several lectures and stations where the audience could interact wholeheartedly with the renowned faculty. Dr Leela K, Dr Manoj VC and Dr Anita S spoke extensively on the fundamentals, with special emphasis on disease specific ventilation by Dr Akash S. The workstations comprised of interactive discussions on radiological interpretation, along with firsthand acquaintance with a working model of a ventilator and the advanced modes of ventilation. The afternoon sessions focused on ventilation in congenital diaphragmatic hernia, pulmonary arterial hypertension and the application of inhaled nitric oxide.
The workshop was a grand success with an impressive turn-out and was well received by the participants.
