
The Department of Biochemistry at Amrita Hospital, Kochi recently hosted a one-day workshop titled "Quality Beyond Numbers: Six Sigma Strategies in Clinical Lab Practice" to explore the role of Six Sigma methodologies in enhancing operational excellence and quality within clinical laboratories.
The workshop, aimed at healthcare professionals, lab technologists, and teachers, focused on how Six Sigma principles can be applied to improve the quality, accuracy, and efficiency of lab processes, ensuring enhanced patient safety and better healthcare delivery.
The event was inaugurated by Dr. Beena K.V., Additional Medical Superintendent, Amrita Hospital, and Dr. Vidya Jha, Deputy Medical Superintendent. Dr. Sajitha Krishnan, Head and Professor of the Department of Biochemistry, led the workshop, guiding participants through the essential components of Six Sigma and its relevance in the clinical lab setting.
Special guests for the event included Dr. Chitra Sri from Madras Medical Mission Hospital and Santosh Kumar Pothar from Quidel Ortho. Both contributed valuable insights on the integration of Six Sigma strategies into clinical practice.
Dr. Sajitha Krishnan also highlighted the importance of quality control and continuous improvement in lab practices. During the interactive session, participants shared their experiences and suggestions, discussing how the Six Sigma approach can help streamline processes, reduce errors, and improve overall laboratory performance.
