The work of Amrita Hospital Kochi in supporting Women and Girls with Bleeding Disorders (WGBD) has been selected for the Community Initiatives section of the World Federation of Hemophilia (WFH) Global Summit 2025. The recognition honors the hospital’s dedicated efforts in raising awareness, advancing diagnostics, and providing comprehensive care for women with bleeding disorders in India.
Since 2022, the hospital’s Hemophilia Treatment Centre (HTC) has partnered with the Royal Manchester Infirmary under the WFH Twinning Program, enabling knowledge exchange and implementation of best practices adapted to the Indian context. This collaboration has strengthened multidisciplinary care, involving hematology, obstetrics & gynecology, dentistry, rehabilitation, nursing, and patient support services, ensuring holistic management for patients.
Key initiatives led by Amrita Hospital include awareness campaigns, diagnostic advances, and multidisciplinary camps. These efforts have empowered women and families to speak openly about bleeding symptoms, integrated reproductive health into bleeding disorder management, and established a model of community engagement replicable in other regions.
Amrita Hospital Kochi, acknowledged the vital support of its partners, including the National Health Mission Kerala, Hemophilia Federation of India, HTC Aluva, Hemophilia Society Kochi, and Manchester Royal Infirmary, whose collaboration has been instrumental in the success of its initiatives for women and girls with bleeding disorders.
Looking ahead, the hospital plans to expand awareness campaigns, enhance point-of-care diagnostics, integrate obstetric care with bleeding disorder management, and develop patient registries aligned with WFH standards to strengthen care delivery.
