As part of International Childhood Cancer Day, Amrita Hospital, Kochi, introduced the joyful and therapeutic art of ‘Hospital Clowning’, a popular comedic performance form from Europe, to bring comfort and relief to young patients.
Renowned clowning artists Pina Blancafort and Bruno Creuss from Sil led the performances, transforming the hospital environment with laughter, positivity, and engaging interactions. The initiative aimed to ease the mental stress of paediatric patients while offering entertainment and emotional support during their treatment journey.
This unique experience was first introduced at Amrita Hospital in 2016, and has since become an important part of creating a more compassionate and healing atmosphere for young patients.
Adding to the event’s vibrancy, medical and paramedic students organized an awareness flash mob to highlight the importance of early diagnosis and care for childhood cancer.
The program was led by Medical Superintendent Dr. K.V. Beena, Head of Haematology Department Dr. Neeraj Siddharthan, along with Dr. Saurabh Radhakrishnan, Dr. Unnikrishnan, Dr. M. Rakesh, Dr. Mano J. Unni, Dr. Rahana, Dr. G. Rama, and Dr. S. Gayatri. Through initiatives like Hospital Clowning, Amrita Hospital remains committed to providing holistic care, ensuring that children undergoing treatment receive not just medical attention but also emotional well-being and happiness.
