Amrita Hospital, Kochi, organised the second advanced-level one-day training programme titled "TARGETED PHARMACOVIGILANCE" for the ADR monitoring centres across Kerala. The programme was a collaborative effort with the Indian Pharmacopoeia Commission (IPC) in Ghaziabad and the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India. Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences is one of the twelve regional training centres (RTCs) in India.

Under the astute coordination of Dr. Princy Louis Palatty, RTC and AMC coordinator of Amrita Hospital Kochi, the programme delved into crucial topics shaping the landscape of pharmacovigilance. The inaugural programme witnessed the presence of various dignitaries, including Emeritus Professor Dr P G Nayar, Additional Medical Superintendent Dr. Beena KV, Senior Medical Administrator Dr. (Brig) Ajoy Menon, and Nursing Director Bri Sai Bala. Around 80 delegates participated in this event, which had the privilege of hosting an illuminating talk by Dr. Jai Prakash, Senior Principal Scientific Officer from IPC Ghaziabad. Amrita Hospital Kochi was specifically lauded for becoming one of the top-most ADR reporting centres in our country during the year 2023, and the training sessions, led by eminent academicians, were specifically designed to enable the delegates to tackle drug-related adverse events in a more effective manner.

The training programme concluded with an interactive session, fostering participant engagement. Discussions during the programme covered a wide spectrum of relevant subjects, including:

  • Reactions and Infections: Understanding the interplay between drug reactions and infections in the healthcare setting.
  • Adverse Events in the Era of Targeted Therapy: Navigating challenges and ensuring vigilance in the context of evolving therapeutic approaches.
  • Common Adverse Drug Reactions: Identifying and addressing prevalent adverse drug reactions for improved patient safety.
  • Medication Errors & Drug Interactions: Highlighting the importance of mitigating errors and managing drug interactions for optimal patient care.
  • Drug Disposal & Wastage: Addressing responsible drug disposal practices to minimize environmental impact.

The programme, attended by dedicated healthcare professionals, aimed to equip coordinators, deputy coordinators, and pharmacovigilance associates of 54 AMCs across Kerala with comprehensive insights. Amrita Hospital, Kochi, remains committed to advancing healthcare standards, fostering continuous learning, and contributing to the collective well-being of the community.
