Dr. Sudheer O V

Dr. Sudheer O.V. joined Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences in 1999 and is now working as Professor and Head of the Department of Gastrointestinal Surgery. He is currently in charge of Laparoscopic Surgery and Robotic Surgery.

Dr. Sudheer is specialized in advanced laparoscopic surgery and is routinely performing bariatric surgery, minimally invasive colorectal surgery, esophageal surgeries and hepatopancreatobiliary surgeries. One of the pioneers in Kerala in laparoscopic surgery and bariatric surgery, Dr. Sudheer has performed the maximum number of minimally invasive oesophageal surgeries and bariatric surgeries in Kerala. He is keenly interested in laparoscopic hepatobiliary surgery other than bariatric and colorectal surgeries.

• Laparoscopic Bariatric Surgery: One of the first to start bariatric surgery in the country in 2005. Trained in Cleveland Clinic USA.
• Laparoscopic Hernia Repair: Has done 2500 laparoscopic hernia repairs, has introduced a new technique of 2 Ports TEPP repair, and later working on single port laparoscopic hernia repair.
• Minimally Invasive Esophagectomy: Started in 2003. Was Trained by H. Osugi, Osaka, Japan
• Laparoscopic Colorectal Surgery: Started in 2003.
• Robotic Surgery: Trained in Robotic Surgery under Prof. Giulianotti and at Samsung Hospital, Korea
