
Amrita Hospital Kochi organized a One-Day Workshop on Neonatal & Paediatric Respiratory Care with the aim of addressing the respiratory challenges faced by neonates and children. The workshop provided a platform for respiratory therapists to deepen their knowledge and skills in the latest treatment methods, including neonatal ventilation and airway management.
The workshop commenced with a prayer led by Bri. Rehana C. Mukund. Dr. Saumya Johnson, Associate Professor of Respiratory Therapy, welcomed the participants, and the felicitation address was delivered by Dr. Jerry Paul, Professor of Anaesthesiology. The event saw engaging sessions from Dr. Jayasree C, Clinical Associate Professor in the Department of Neonatology at Amrita Hospital; Ms. Anjali Kotian, Assistant Professor and Respiratory Therapist at Yenepoya School of Allied Health Sciences, Mangalore; Dr. Benoy Jagadeesh, Junior Consultant in PICU at Amrita Hospital; Dr. Sajith Kesavan, Head of Paediatric Pulmonary and Critical Care at Amrita Hospital, Kochi; and Ms. Riya Asokan, Lecturer & Paediatric Respiratory Therapist.
The topics covered included:
- The Developing Lung: Physiology and Common Respiratory Disorders by Jayasree C
- NIV in Neonates: Current Concepts and Updates by Anjali Kotian
- Pediatric Airway Management and Emergency Care by Benoy Jagadeesh
- Mastering the Art of Neonatal Ventilation: Initiation, Weaning & Extubation by Anjali Kotian
- Flexible Bronchoscopy in Pediatric Patients by Sajith Kesavan
- Tiny Patients, Big Impact: The Role of RTs in Pediatric Care by Riya Asokan
The hands-on session on High Flow Oxygen Therapy, Aerosol Therapy, and Mechanical Ventilation gave the participants practical experience in advanced pediatric respiratory care techniques.
The workshop, which was attended by 130 respiratory therapists from across Kerala and neighbouring states, concluded with a vote of thanks by Girija Vijaykumar, recognizing the contributions of all speakers, participants, and organizers.
