The preconference workshop in Paediatric bronchoscopy titled "Navigating Tiny Airways with Confidence: An Immersive Hands-On Experience" of 61st National Conference of the Indian Academy of Paediatrics, PEDICON 2024, explored the intricacies of Paediatric bronchoscopy at Amrita Hospital, Kochi. The workshop gave participants a comprehensive hands-on experience, enabling them to navigate the complexities of paediatric bronchoscopy.
The workshop took place at the Animal Lab of Amrita Hospital, Kochi, recognized as one of India's only facilities of its kind.
The morning session kicked off with an introduction by Dr. Sajith Kesavan, emphasizing the establishment of a paediatric bronchoscopic service. Renowned speakers, including Dr. Antony Terence, Dr. Sagar Warankar, Dr. Arvind Perathur and Dr.Srikanta JT shared their expertise on indications, contraindications, sedation, complications, and diagnostic procedures related to paediatric bronchoscopy.
The afternoon session was full of hands-on experiences, with participants engaging in bronchoscopy on live anaesthetized pigs. The workshop featured 3 stations, each providing participants with an opportunity to practice driving, BAL sampling, biopsy, foreign body removal, electro and cryo-surgery. A still porcine lung model showcased cutting-edge advancements in the field, where every participant had hands-on experience in foreign body removal from the still model using cryo.
The day concluded with an insightful discussion on multiple case scenarios leaving participants equipped with both theoretical knowledge and practical skills.
