The Department of Gastroenterology & Hepatology at Amrita Hospital, Kochi, successfully hosted the Amrita Liver Health Awareness Campaign at Dawn Public School on July 1st, 2024. The campaign aimed to raise awareness about the significance of fatty liver diseases, nutrition, and exercise among adolescents, combining medical education with practical lifestyle guidance.

The event began with an educational session led by Dr. Arun Valsan, Associate Professor & Hepatologist, who provided an insightful class on the causes, risks, and prevention of fatty liver diseases. He emphasized the importance of early detection and lifestyle changes in mitigating the risks associated with fatty liver diseases, stressing the critical role of awareness and education.

Following the session, Mrs. Swathilakshmi, dietitian, conducted a nutrition class that highlighted the importance of a balanced diet. She guided the students on incorporating a variety of fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and lean proteins into their daily meals while minimizing the consumption of sugary and fatty foods. Her practical tips and easy-to-follow dietary advice were well-received by the young audience, encouraging them to make healthier food choices.

The campaign concluded with an invigorating exercise and yoga session led by the Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PMR) team. This session underscored the benefits of regular physical activity and stress management through yoga, promoting a holistic approach to maintaining liver health. The students actively participated, learning various exercises and yoga poses that can be incorporated into their daily routines.

To further engage the students, a slogan-making competition was organized, encouraging creativity and reinforcing the campaign’s key messages. The winners were awarded certificates, recognizing their innovative contributions to promoting liver health awareness.

By integrating medical insights, nutritional guidance, and physical exercise, the Amrita Liver Health Awareness Campaign aimed to instill healthy habits in adolescents. The initiative not only focused on preventing liver-related diseases but also emphasized fostering overall well-being among the youth.
