In a significant step towards expanding access to life-saving healthcare for children, Amrita Hospital, Kochi has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Government of Jharkhand to provide specialized paediatric cardiac care for children across the state.
Under this landmark partnership, Amrita Hospital will conduct specialized medical camps four times a year in various districts of Jharkhand to identify children with congenital heart diseases and facilitate advanced treatment.
The initiative has already made a strong impact through two major camps held in early 2026. During the Giridih Camp conducted on January 9 and 10, a total of 145 children were screened, with 70 patients identified for surgery. This was followed by the Ranchi Camp held on April 10 and 11 at the government-run Sadar Hospital, where 295 children were examined and 99 patients were scheduled for surgical intervention.
As part of the agreement, all identified children receive completely free treatment and surgery at Amrita Hospital. To ensure that financial limitations do not prevent access to care, the MoU also includes transportation support for patients and their guardians travelling to Kochi for treatment.
Beyond direct clinical care, the collaboration also focuses on strengthening local healthcare capacity. On April 10, a dedicated training programme was conducted for around 50 pediatricians from Jharkhand to enhance early detection and timely referral of cardiac conditions in children. The session was inaugurated by Dr. Iqbal Ansari and presided over by NHM Director Prakash Jayadev.
Continuing its outreach efforts, a four-member specialist team from Amrita Hospital is scheduled to return to Jharkhand in July 2026 to conduct follow-up camps in Deoghar, Bokaro, and Jamshedpur.
