Amrita Hospital, Kochi, conducted a two-day workshop in collaboration with the World Federation of Hemophilia, shedding light on the critical issue of low awareness about bleeding disorders in women. WFH twinning program of Amrita Hemophilia treatment centre with Manchester Hemophilia treatment centre, conducted workshops and identified a lack of diagnostic and treatment facilities and a general unawareness as primary obstacles for women seeking help.

As a significant outcome, a specialized working group was inaugurated during the workshop, bringing together expertise from departments such as gynaecology, hematology, physical medicine & rehabilitation, coagulation laboratory, and nursing. This group aims to spearhead medical camps, awareness initiatives, and improved treatment facilities. Dr. Beena K V, Additional Medical Superintendent at Amrita Hospital, Kochi inaugurated the working group, emphasizing the hospital's commitment to addressing these challenges. 

During the workshop, an extensive scientific program covered a range of crucial topics related to bleeding disorders. Participants delved into the physiology of coagulation and received an introduction to laboratory tests. Practical sessions included hands-on experiences with PT/APTT, Mixing Study, factor assays, and Inhibitor screen. Discussions also revolved around pre-analytical variables in the laboratory diagnosis of bleeding disorders and explored analytical and post-analytical variables in inhibitor assays. The workshop also addressed challenges in resource-limited settings and explored topics such as carrier testing and prenatal diagnosis, ensuring a comprehensive understanding of bleeding disorder diagnostics and treatment. 

Experts including Professor Dr. Jecko Thachil of Manchester Haemophilia Treatment Centre, Dr. Vijayakumar N from Aluva Govt. Hemophilia Treatment Center, Dr. Neeraj Siddharthan, Head of Clinical Hematology Department of Amrita Hospital, Dr. Seethalakshmi N V, Head of Pathology Department, Dr. Rema G, Dr. Reema Miria Abraham, Dr. Nivedita Suresh, Dr. Sachin David, Dr. Sophie Moores, Dr. Karthika K V, Dr. Mobin Paul, Dr. Geetha Vidyadharan, Dr. Monisha Harimadhavan, Mr Sukumaran Deivasigamani led the classes.
