
Kerala witnessed a significant advancement in cancer treatment with the inauguration of the state's first Centre of Excellence in CAR T-Cell Therapy. The event, held at Amrita Hospital, Kochi was followed symposium that brought together top doctors from across India to discuss and highlight the latest advancements in CAR T-cell therapy. This innovative treatment, which modifies T cells to target and destroy cancer cells, offers new hope for patients with recurrent cancers. The Centre of Excellence in CAR T was launched in association with ImmunoACT, underscoring the collaborative efforts to bring cutting-edge therapies to the region.
The first panel discussion, moderated by Dr. Ramasamy N.V., delved into the uncharted territory of navigating unmet needs in relapsed refractory B cell malignancies. The session highlighted the critical challenges and potential solutions in treating these complex conditions. Following this, Dr. Hasmukh Jain shared valuable insights on CAR T-cell therapy in India, drawing lessons from clinical trials and real-world data for relapsed/refractory B-cell malignancies.
The next session of panel discussion, moderated by Dr. Sharat Damodar, centered on the crucial aspect of choosing the right patients for CAR T-cell therapy. This conversation emphasized the importance of patient selection in optimizing treatment outcomes and ensuring the best possible care for those undergoing this therapy.
Dr. Nikhil Krishna Haridas then presented on the future of CAR T-cell therapy beyond hematological malignancies, offering a glimpse into the potential applications of this groundbreaking treatment in other areas of oncology. Dr Uday Kulkarni, CMC Vellore and Prof. Rahul Purwar, Director and CEO of ImmunoAct addressed the gathering via online.
