Extending its commitment to community healthcare, Amrita Hospital, Kochi in association with the Puthuppally Charitable Club organized a large-scale free eye examination and cataract surgery camp at the Puthuppally Teachers’ Bank Auditorium on Sunday, February 22.

The camp was inaugurated by Chandy Oommen, MLA of Puthuppally. The event was attended by Swamini Nisthamrutapran of Mata Amritanandamayi Math, Puthuppally Grama Panchayat President Sabu Puthuparambil, Amrita Hospital Administrator Jayan M.D., and several prominent representatives from social and public sectors.

A dedicated medical team led by ophthalmologists from Amrita Hospital conducted comprehensive eye examinations for the public. More than 1,300 people benefitted from free eye screenings during the camp. Around 500 individuals who required corrective lenses were provided spectacles at no cost. Patients diagnosed with cataract were identified and registered for free cataract surgery at Amrita Hospital, Kochi. In addition to eye care, related health checks such as blood sugar and blood pressure assessments were also carried out.

The initiative was coordinated by office bearers and volunteers of the Puthuppally Charitable Club, whose active involvement ensured the smooth conduct of the camp. Organizers described the programme as a meaningful step toward improving access to quality eye care and strengthening community health outreach.
