Liposuction
Liposuction is routinely employed to remove subcutaneous adipose deposits in various areas in the body to improve figure flaws and create a more balanced physique. A cannula connected to a suction-generating source allows for small incisions to be strategically placed and large volumes of fat is removed.
Equipment
Operating Microscope
An operating or surgical microscope is an optical instrument that provides the surgeon with a stereoscopic, high quality magnified and illuminated image of the small structures in the surgical area.
Devices
It is the area of surgery that deals with correction of deformities (either from birth or acquired by trauma or burns), reconstruction of body parts destroyed or removed for cancer, hand injuries and coverage of wounds caused by accidents. It also manages facial injuries, burn injuries, diabetic foot ulcers and tissue destroying infections. Cosmetic surgery is another area that is managed by plastic surgeons.
Microsurgery is the technique of doing very fine surgery under the microscope. Microvascular surgery is the joining together of small arteries, veins and nerves using microscopic stitches under the microscope. In this Institute, all the Plastic Surgeons are expert microsurgeons. Plastic and reconstructive surgeons use microsurgery to re-attach severed body parts (e.g., fingers) and also to repair nerves, blood vessels and tendons of the hand, leg and foot. It is also used to transfer skin, bone, muscle and other tissue from one part of the body to wounds and defects to reconstruct the part destroyed by accidents and cancer. It is also used in brachial plexus surgery. Our department is one of the foremost centres in the world in the field of reconstructive microsurgery.
Cosmetic surgeries are surgeries that enhance the appearance of the face or body by making it more pleasing or beautiful from the patient’s perspective. Cosmetic surgeries are primarily performed by plastic surgeons. Our department performs evidence-based, safe and time-tested cosmetic surgeries on a routine basis. Commonly performed cosmetic surgeries are – various types of facial rejuvenation, rhinoplasty, chin augmentation, aesthetic breast surgery, hair transplant and body contouring procedures including liposuction.
Facial rejuvenation is the process of reversing age-changes in the face like wrinkles and irregular pigmentation. Non-surgical methods include botox injection, filler injection, thread lift, laser skin resurfacing and chemical peeling. All these are day cases and patients can return home the next day. More complete and long-lashing removal of wrinkles requires a face-lift or rhytidectomy. This requires admission for two to three days and patient can go to work after two weeks. Aesthetic or cosmetic breast surgery is another area of cosmetic surgery. Big and saggy breasts can be a physical abnormality and a deformity. Breasts can be made smaller by breast reduction. This is a surgery requiring three to four days of admission. Small breasts can be made big by augmentation. This is a simpler surgery where a medically safety-proven implant is inserted by surgery under the existing breast. Liposuction is a body shaping procedure that is ideal in overweight people to remove ugly fat deposits on the hips, abdomen, buttocks, thighs etc. Abdominoplasty, thigh lift etc. are body-shaping procedures that are sometimes needed as an addition to liposuction when there is a lot of saggy skin excess. Liposuction is usually a day case procedure. Patient can go home the same day. Rhinoplasty is the surgery that is performed to change the shape of the nose. What needs to be done depends on what the patient wants changed. Mentoplasty, malar augmentation etc. are other procedures that change the shape of the chin and face.
Yes. They are done in the same day and patient can go home. They include:
(a) Botulinum toxin injection – Injection to reduce wrinkles on the face
(b) Filler injection – Injection of certain gel-like materials to improve wrinkles and for fullness in the face
(c) Fat injection – Patient’s own fat can be harvested and injected to re-shape areas that needs fullness. Also, for wrinkles.
(d) Laser application – For fine wrinkles, provide a youthful appearance and for uneven pigmentation and age-changes.
(e) Chemical peeling
As wound care specialists, plastic surgeons all over the world routinely deal with hand infections and diabetic foot ulcers. Many of the ulcers of the foot require surgical treatment and plastic surgical procedures like skin grafts and flaps.
