Loop-X® powered Centre to bring advanced intraoperative imaging and surgical navigation to complex brain and spine care, enabling lower radiation exposure, better 3D visibility, implant verification, streamlined workflows and potentially less need for repeated imaging
Brainlab and Amrita Hospital, Faridabad have inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to set up North India’s first Centre of Excellence for Brain & Spine powered by Brainlab’s Loop-X® Mobile Imaging Robot, strengthening access to cutting-edge technology-enabled neurosurgical and spine care in the region.
The dedicated centre, ACNS – the Advance Centre of Excellence for Neuro & Spine at Amrita Hospital, Faridabad, will bring together Amrita Hospital’s clinical expertise in neurology and Brainlab’s intraoperative imaging and surgical navigation technologies. It will be used for complex operations on the brain and spine, as well as a platform for clinical training, technology demonstrations and the sharing of knowledge between surgeons and health care professionals.
ACNS represents a dedicated environment for advanced, technology-enabled Neuro and Spine care, bringing together clinical expertise, advanced technology and an ecosystem for clinical learning and knowledge exchange. The centre will not only support the treatment of complex Neuro and Spine cases, but also create a platform where clinicians can learn, collaborate, train and share knowledge around evolving surgical technologies and techniques.
The centre will be based on Loop-X®, a robotic mobile imaging system providing 2D and 3D cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) images inside the operating room. This gives surgical teams detailed images during surgery that can be integrated with navigation technology to guide surgery and confirm results before the patient leaves the operating room.
Intraoperative imaging allows the surgeon to visualise the anatomy, verify the placement of any implants and acquire new images as necessary. This is particularly important in complex brain and spine surgery where accuracy is paramount. Loop-X® also offers patient-specific imaging, by concentrating the scan on the area to be treated, helping to optimise radiation exposure.
The collaboration builds on Amrita Hospital, Faridabad’s existing neurosciences programme, which manages a broad spectrum of complex brain and spine disorders. Its capabilities include image-guided neurosurgery, minimally invasive procedures, functional neurosurgery, movement disorder interventions, epilepsy surgery and complex craniospinal procedures.
At the heart of this collaboration will be ACNS – the Advance Centre of Excellence for Neuro & Spine at Amrita Hospital, Faridabad, bringing together clinical expertise, Brainlab navigation, intraoperative imaging and robotics in one connected environment. The centre will further strengthen the hospital’s technology-enabled ecosystem for complex Neuro and Spine care, while supporting clinical learning, technology demonstrations and knowledge exchange.
The hospital already uses Brainlab navigation and integrated intraoperative ultrasonography. The addition of Loop-X® is expected to further strengthen this technology-enabled surgical ecosystem by bringing advanced 3D imaging directly into the operating room.
The technology also has applications in functional neurosurgery, when surgeons operate with very precise anatomical targets in the brain. Loop-X® can facilitate workflows for intraoperative imaging, registration and verification of lead placement, including procedures where implanted leads need to be placed with a high degree of precision.
“The opening of this dedicated centre is proof of our pledge to continuously enhancing the capabilities available to patients requiring complex neuro and spine care,” said Dr. Sanjeev Singh, Medical Director, Amrita Hospital, Faridabad. “With advanced intraoperative imaging and navigation, we can help our clinical teams by providing better visibility during surgery and allowing for verification in the operating room itself.”
“Our partnership with Brainlab will further augment the technology-enabled ecosystem at Amrita Hospital, Faridabad and help us take the delivery of specialised care for patients across the region to the next level.”
Loop-X® combines robotic positioning with 2D and 3D intra-operative imaging, providing a scalable field of view that can be adapted to clinical needs. Its large gantry opening allows for different patient positions and its robotic design allows imaging to be repeated during a procedure when clinically required.
As a part of ACNS – the Advance Centre of Excellence for Neuro & Spine, Brainlab and Amrita Hospital, Faridabad seek to establish a dedicated hub for advanced brain and spine surgery, clinical learning and technology-enabled surgical innovation, while increasing access to specialised care in neuro and spine for patients across North India.
