
In celebration of World Environment Day 2026, Amrita Hospital and Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham Faridabad organized a range of activities reflecting their commitment to the cause of environmental sustainability, conservation, and community engagement.
Several activities of the day-long celebration, included a large-scale plantation drive which was organized by Ms. Priyanka Malik, District Youth Officer and Sho of the Local Police Department.With the assistance of Ms. Sundari Nanda, IPS and Br. Harshamrita, the planting of almost 1,000 saplings was carried out in the median of Mata Amritanandamayi Marg as well as in green belts of the campus area. This event symbolized the contribution of Amrita towards promoting environmentalism.
The second round of the celebration started from the auditorium in the presence of some eminent dignitaries like Swami Nijamritananda Puri, the Administrative Director of Amrita Hospital; Mr. Vivek Saxena, APCCF and Chief Wildlife Warden of Haryana; Shri Jhalkar Uyake, IFS and Deputy Conservator of Forests, Faridabad; and Shri Suresh Chander, State President, Haryana Progressive Schools Conference (HPSC).
Before beginning the main event, the dignitaries planted a Banyan tree, chiku plants, and several other species of trees at Amritvan, marking the sense of joint responsibility in saving the environment. The dignitaries also opened an eco-themed mural that was painted by the students of School of Medicine.
Speaking at the function, Swami Nijamritananda Puri stressed upon the necessity of bringing environmental awareness in our day-to-day lives, whereas Mr. Vivek Saxena called the students towards active participation in saving the environment.
The event was also attended by the Hon’ble Shri Vipul Goel, the Minister of Civil Aviation, Revenue & Disaster Management, and Urban Local Bodies, Government of Haryana, along with Mr. Dharamveer Gupta, from Sudha Rastogi Dental College. Addressing the gathering in his benedictory speech, Shri Vipul Goel exhorted the students to become good citizens who work for the sustainable development of the nation.
An important feature of the event was the Investiture Ceremony that formally installed student leaders in different councils such as Student Representative Council, Green Council (Amrita Green Friends Club), Fine Arts Council, Amrita Council of Sports & Excellence, Samskriti – The Cultural Council, and the Technical Council.
Presenting an elaborate report on the sustainable practices of the institute, Arya Chatterjee, the Student Treasurer of the Amrita Green Friends Club, made a detailed presentation about the green initiatives taken up by students.
The participants were also shown a video of the unique mural project that had been prepared by the students. Prize-giving ceremonies were held for a series of competitions held in association with World Environment Day, such as Wall Painting, Balcony Decoration, Reel Making, and Inter-College Competitions.
Some of the significant accomplishments include the first position in Nukkad Natak competition won by students of the Amrita School of Medicine, while the Reel Making competition winners were the students of the Amrita School of Allied Health Sciences. A special mention was made of the contributions made by the students of the Amrita School of Nursing towards environmental issues.
Concluding the event was an expression of gratitude made by Utkarshini Kumar, Student Secretary, Amrita Green Friends Club. Recognizing and thanking dignitaries, coordinators, faculty members, hospital administrators and students who contributed to the success of the event.
Every one of us has an opportunity to contribute toward creating sustainable worldwide awareness of environmental issues which goes along with coming together to do so. It was demonstrated during World Environment Day Celebration hosted by Amrita Hospital and Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham.
