Recently, Amrita Hospital - Faridabad's Centre of Excellence for Pulmonary Diseases (COPD) organized an integrated CME and Certification Program on basic principles of respiratory medicine. This program was organized in association with the General Physician Forum of Faridabad and witnessed the participation of 50 General Physicians of Faridabad. This is a welcome sign of increased interest in accessing frontline respiratory healthcare facilities.

The course covered basic principles of respiratory medicine and how they could be applied in daily clinical practice with special emphasis on areas of high impact and increased need such as bronchial asthma, COPD, TB, and emergencies. The course also covered theoretical aspects as well as video presentations on correct inhaler techniques.

Faculty highlighted that respiratory illnesses constitute a significant proportion of both OPD and IPD practice for general physicians, and that early recognition, accurate diagnosis, rational pharmacotherapy, and proper inhaler technique can dramatically improve patient outcomes. The interactive format encouraged case-based discussions, clarifying real-world clinical dilemmas and enabling participants to directly engage with specialists from the pulmonary medicine team.

The hands-on and discussions were well appreciated by the attending physicians, as they shared that the course would have an immediate impact on the way they would handle patients with respiratory disease in primary and secondary healthcare settings. At the end of the course, each participant received a certificate of completion, acknowledging the upskilling received on the basics of respiratory medicine.

Amrita Hospital remains dedicated to improving primary "Respiratory Care" with the help of collaborative academic programmes designed to empower general practitioners with current knowledge and skills. This in turn provides timely and improved access to quality health care for a much larger community. Through partnerships with professional forums, the hospital will continue to offer many more collaborative CME and certificate programmes to enhance evidence-based, community-oriented health care throughout the region.
