The Department of Paediatric Neurology is well-equipped to handle the whole spectrum of paediatric neurological problems. Epilepsy, sleep disorders, stroke, neuromuscular diseases, behavioural disorders, and learning difficulties are among the neurological disorders that the department is skilled in evaluating and managing.

Disorders Treated
- Seizures and Epilepsy in infants and children
Seizures in infants and children are different from those seen in adults. Early recognition and appropriate management can prevent developmental issues related with some types of epilepsies. Expertise and Video EEG is available in the department.
- Neurodevelopmental Disorders
Neurodevelopmental disorders including Autism Spectrum disorders, Cerebral palsy, ADHD and Learning Disabilities are very common in children and if diagnosed and managed early, can prevent secondary issues. The department is well supported by a dedicated multidisciplinary team to manage children with such disorders.
- Psychosomatic / Functional disorders
Contrary to popular belief, psychosomatic disorders are quite common in children; experience in the recognition and management of these can prevent unnecessary therapies. Such expertise is available.
- Headaches and Migraine
Headaches and migraine in childhood are not uncommon and these need to be accurately identified and appropriately managed. Experienced pediatric neurologists are available in the department.
- Neurometabolic Disorders
Inborn errors of metabolism can be present in various ways – expertise required to diagnose and treat these disorders is available.
- Neurocritical Care Facilities
The department has close collaboration with PICU to manage critically ill children with neurological disorders including CNS infections, such as Meningitis and Encephalitis, Acute weakness, Paralysis and stroke in children. Also, chronic CNS infections– including Neurocysticercosis and Tuberculosis of the Nervous System can be expertly managed.
- Neuromuscular Disorders
Facilities for electrophysiology are available for the diagnosis and management of these disorders.
