Dr. Anupama is a pioneer in the field of Robotic Surgery in gynecologic cancers. She did her basic medical training at Govt. Medical College, Kottayam, Kerala from where she passed with a university rank. She completed her postgraduate training in Obstetrics and Gynaecology from Govt. Stanley Medical College, Chennai. She did her training in minimally invasive gynaecological surgeries from Paul's Hospital under Dr. P.G. Paul.
In March 2009, Dr. Anupama joined the Department of Surgical and Gynaecologic Oncology at Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences and, after her two-year training period, she joined as an Assistant Professor in the same department. In 2012, she underwent training in Robotic Surgery at McGill University, Montreal, Canada.
Dr. Anupama introduced the Minimally Invasive and Robotic Surgery Programme in the Department of Gynaecologic Oncology in February 2015. She was the first in India to use robotic-assisted sentinel lymph node mapping for endometrial cancer. With the integration of these technologies, now, she is able to offer surgical procedures with shorter hospital stays and faster recovery time for gynaecological cancer patients. Till February 2021, she has done over 800 robotic procedures. She is also the first gynaecologist in India to complete over 800 robotic surgeries. Since the last two years, Dr. Anupama has started day-care surgical programs where patients affected with gynaecological cancers are undergoing surgery without even overnight hospital stay.
She also has strong interest in clinical, research and is currently involved in molecular research in ovarian cancer. She has won several awards for her work both in the national and international forums.
She has published more than 38 journal publications and has authored several book chapters. She is a reviewer for many national and international journals.
