Fellowship in Gastrointestinal and Liver Pathology (FGIL Path)

(Accreditation and Certification by Amrita University)

This is a 2 year Fellowship program aimed to provide a comprehensive understanding of the spectrum of adult and paediatric gastrointestinal, pancreatic and hepatobiliary pathology and to competently handle issues that arise in routine and specialty/referral practice. The Fellowship will be awarded by Amrita University after successful completion of theory and practical exam at the end of the 24 month training program.

The objectives are summarised below

  • To increase knowledge and experience in neoplastic and non-neoplastic diseases that primarily or secondarily affect the gastrointestinal tract, pancreas and liver in both adult and paediatric patients.
  • To strengthen diagnostic skills in gastrointestinal and liver pathology by interpreting histological findings in the light of clinical presentation and laboratory data and with the full awareness of the potential clinical impact of the diagnosis and differentials.
  • To independently evaluate intraoperative consultations.
  • To gain exposure in transplant pathology.
  • To understand the utility of ancillary techniques including molecular studies for diagnostic and theranostic purposes in the field of gastrointestinal and liver pathology.
  • To gain experience in FNA cytology of liver and pancreas.
  • To develop an appreciation of the multidisciplinary team approach to the treatment of patients with these diseases.
  • To enhance teaching abilities through interaction with pathology trainees, students and clinicians.
  • To gain experience in research techniques, write up research protocols and utilize these techniques to complete research projects.

Eligibility Criteria

Essential : Post graduate training in pathology (MD / DNB)
Desirable : Demonstration of interest in GI Pathology
Duration of Program : 24 months
Closing date of application : 20.08.2021

Fellowship in Paediatric Critical Care

This fellowship program is aimed to provide a comprehensive understanding of the spectrum of paediatric critical care. The candidate can choose to apply for 1 or 2 years based on their needs. This post would suit candidates who have finished MD or DNB in paediatrics and are looking to develop a career as a paediatric critical care physician. The post will be based at the Department of Paediatric Pulmonary and Critical Care at Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences, Kochi.

The objectives are enumerated below:

  • To increase knowledge and experience in respiratory, cardiovascular and neuro physiology and bedside application in management of critically ill children.
  • To develop and strengthen procedural skills in ultrasound-guided central line insertion, arterial line, chest tube, endotracheal intubation, CPR etc.
  • To independently assess and come up with a management plan for critically ill children.
  • To gain exposure in and develop skills in application of point of care ultrasound in children.
  • To interpret and analyse laboratory, imaging and microbiological results of critically ill children.
  • To effectively counsel relatives of a critically ill children with empathy.
  • To critically appraise literature and understand the application of evidence-based medicine in the practice of paediatric critical care.
  • To effectively communicate and collaborate with other members of the multi-disciplinary team involved in the management of critically ill children.
  • To enhance teaching abilities through interaction with nurses, paediatric residents and respiratory therapists.
  • To gain experience in research techniques, write up research protocols and utilize these techniques to complete research projects.

Eligibility Criteria

Essential: MD/DNB in Paediatrics, preference will be given to candidates with prior work experience in PICU.
Duration of Program : 1 year and 2 years program
Closing date of application : February 10, 2021
