Dr. Lakshmi completed her MBBS in 2011 and MD Psychiatry in 2017 from Government Medical College, Calicut. Then she joined Government Medical College Alappuzha and worked in the Department of Psychiatry as Senior Resident for a year. She has worked as a Consultant in Little Flower Hospital and Research Centre, Angamaly. Before joining Amrita, she has also worked in Government Medical College, Ernakulam. Currently she is working as Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychiatry at Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences, Kochi. Her areas of interest include depression and prevention of suicide, de-addiction, and child psychiatry. She is actively involved in resident education and other academic activities in the department.

  • February 2020 to November 2020 : Worked as senior resident in Department of Psychiatry Government Medical College Ernakulam. Experience includes ward rounds, outpatients, consultation liaison and emergency cases. Also handled Corona ICU duty during the same period during the COVID 19 Pandemic
  • August 2018 to March 2019 : Worked as junior consultant in Little Flower Hospital, Angamaly. Experience includes ward rounds, outpatients, consultation liaison and emergency cases.
  • August 2017 - August 2018 : Worked as Senior Resident in the Department of Psychiatry in Government TD Medical College Alappuzha. Experience includes ward rounds, outpatients, consultation liason and emergency cases.

Post Graduate and Under Graduate teaching experience.

July 2014 – June 2017: As junior resident in the Department of Psychiatry in Government Medical College Calicut. Postings in speciality departments included neurology, neurosurgery, general medicine in Calicut Medical College, and behavioural therapy, de-addiction and child and adolescent psychiatry from NIMHANS. Thesis done under the supervision of Dr.Ashok Kumar (Additional Professor, Department of Psychiatry, Government Medical College Calicut). Experience includes ward rounds, outpatients and emergency cases. Has undergraduate teaching experience as bedside clinics.

January 2012 - September 2012 : Worked in government community health centre as a medical officer as part of compulsory rural service.

Thesis:

Impulsivity, Psychological Distress and Psychiatric illness in suicide attempters- A cross sectional study in a tertiary health care centre in North Kerala.
