Fellowship in Paediatric Neurology

Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences and Research Centre (Amrita Hospital), is a 1300 bed university teaching hospital in Kerala, India with peripheral centres in various parts of the country providing top quality healthcare with more than 800 physicians and specialist together with 4500 support staff. The Division of Paediatric Neurology in the institute offers all comprehensive state-of-the-art clinical services in paediatric neurology in both outpatient and inpatient settings.

The advanced neuroelectrophysiology laboratory has facilities for EEG, nerve conduction studies, EMG and evoked potential studies along with EEG monitoring services in PICU/ NICU. The Division works in close liaison with the department of genetics, metabolic disorders laboratory, molecular biology, clinical psychology and psychiatry. The Amrita Advanced Centre for Epilepsy has a comprehensive Paediatric Epilepsy Program for resistant epilepsies with facilities for prolonged VEEG telemetry, Invasive monitoring including stereo EEG, surgical management and ketogenic diet. The departments of nuclear medicine and radiology with PET, SPECT, 3 T structural and functional MRI services support the program well.

The Division offers a 2 year fellowship program in Paediatric Neurology. This is a structured core neurology program with rotations in clinical paediatric neurology, general neurology, clinical neurophysiology, neuroradiology, neuropathology, neurointensive care and neurogenetics. At the end of the training period, the candidate will be able to confidently approach and manage all the neurological disorders in children. There will be opportunities for further focused training and research in paediatric epileptology or clinical neurophysiology during and after the completion of the fellowship period.

  • Mandatory: MD/DNB Anaesthesia or MD/DNB Paediatrics
  • Desirable: Fellowship in Cardiac Anaesthesia/ Paediatric Cardiology

Course Highlights:

  • 600 paediatric cardiac surgeries / year including complex neonatal heart surgery.
  • Experienced faculty in Paediatric Cardiology/Paediatric Cardiac Intensive Care/ Paediatric Cardiac Anaesthesia/Paediatric Cardiac Surgery/Neonatology.
  • Dedicated paediatric cardiac intensive care unit and paediatric cardiac OR.
  • Hands on training in peri- operative paediatric cardiac care, paediatric and neonatal invasive vascular access including ultrasound guided techniques, paediatric airway management, transesophageal and transthoracic echocardiography.
  • Overseas training for three months in a high volume centre.
