Gift of Life International, which is a Rotarian-based organization, sponsors heart surgeries for children with congenital heart disease in developing countries. Recently, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed by Gift of Life and Amrita institute of Medical Sciences, Kochi. As part of the agreement, the treatment for 100 children will be sponsored by this year.
Already, 14 children have undergone treatments at Amrita Hospital. Dr. R. Krishna Kumar, Head, Paediatric Cardiology, said, “While this partnership between Rotary and Amrita give smiles back to the unfortunate children, it wipes out the misery in the family, strengthens community bondage and builds peace.” Each of these children can now go back to school, lead normal lives and grow up to serve the community and country, he added.
True to Rotary philosophy, Gift of Life is a “peace project” for giving new lease of life to children born to die: beyond borders, caste, creed, region, religion, race, nationality, language, gender and colour. “Thanks to the Rotary movement, these children can get a second chance at life,” said Rtn Dr. Prakash Chandran, District Governor of D3201.
