Medical advances have brought lifesaving care to patients in need, yet many of those advances come with a risk of hospital and patients at large.

Importance of Infection Control Certification Programme (ICCP)

ICCP is an endeavour towards preparation of a group of health care professionals with expertise which is essential for effective implementation of infection control practices across all health care settings. By the infection control certification program, we aim at developing specialized nurses in this field, equipped with adequate knowledge and skill needed for the maintenance of a safe hospital environment and health care delivery practices.


Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences has conducted this certification program since 2011 and has certified 300 Registered Nurses from various parts of India over 18 Batches.

Training Overview

Infection control certification program is a distance education program delivered over a period of 8 weeks with 6 days mandatory contact sessions. There shall be an examination at the end of the course and the final evaluation is based on the completed log book, written exam and viva voce. Contact classes are arranged in two sessions of 3 days each.

Training package:

This includes printed course materials, log book and lectures by experienced resource personnel and field visit during contact programs.

Eligibility for admission

  • Diploma in GNM /Post Basic B Sc Nursing / B Sc Nursing degree/ M Sc Nursing Degree
  • Has an active license from any state nursing council in India.
  • Currently working in a hospital where course related activities can be performed

Epileptology Fellowship at Amrita Advanced Centre for Epilepsy

One of the most advanced comprehensive epilepsy centres in India is inviting applications for Epilepsy Fellowships. Two seats are available every year. Duration of the fellowship is one year. The fellowship is designed provide expertise and proficiency in the following areas:

  • Comprehensive understanding: Refractory epilepsy, epilepsy syndromes, women with epilepsy, pediatric epilepsy
  • Advanced electrophysiology of epilepsy including electrical source localization
  • Presurgical evaluation of epilepsy, including:
    1. VEEG telemetry,
    2. Advanced interictal EEG/ictal EEG/semiology characterization,
    3. Ictal SPECT,
    4. Interictal PET,
    5. 3T and functional MRI
  • Advanced techniques in epilepsy surgery:
    1. Intracranial EEG,
    2. detailed SEEG methodology,
    3. functional brain mapping (fMRI, intraoperative & extraoperative electrocortical stimulation, Wada),
    4. Advanced Intracranial EEG analysis (HFO mapping, CCEP, ictal onset stimulation mapping,
    5. intraoperative electrocorticography,
    6. advanced image coregistry techniques as applied to epilepsy surgery,
    7. Neuromodulation therapy including DBS.
  • Comprehensive clinical experience in long-term medical management of epilepsy including:
    1. ketogenic diet
    2. evidence-based drug management.
  • Research thesis in clinical epileptology

Fellowship in Paediatric Neurosurgery (FPNS)

This is a 2 year Fellowship program aimed to provide a comprehensive understanding of the spectrum of neurosurgical problems in children. The program is meant to be comprehensive in terms of surgical training and research on the subject.

The objectives are enumerated below:

  • To learn the basic management of paediatric cases with acute and chronic neurosurgical conditions
  • To learn operations for hydrocephalus, tumors and craniofacial pathologies/craniosynostoses
  • To learn operations for craniocervical disorders, tethering lesions in spine and simple spinal fixations for trauma and congenital conditions
  • To gain experience in various essential neurosurgical adjuncts intraoperative neuromonitoring, minimally invasive neurosurgery/ neuroendoscopy
  • To learn the perioperative management of neonates and children who have undergone surgery
  • To become well versed in managing short term and long term issues of congenital paediatric neurosurgical disorders
  • To develop and pursue mentored research in paediatric neurosurgery field

Essential: Post graduate training in Neurosurgery
Desirable: Demonstration of interest in Paediatric Neurosurgery and research
Duration of Program: 24 months

Highlights of the program

The Department of Radiodiagnosis at Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences, Kochi is one of the finest and most busiest imaging centre in the country with a fully digital, Picture Archiving and Communications Systems that is equipped with one 256 slice MDCT, one 16 slice MDCT, one 1.5 Tesla and one 3 T MR systems. On a monthly basis, average of 150 - 200 CT angios, 70 - 80 Cardiac CT, 100 - 150 MR angios and 30 - 40 Cardiac MRI are performed.

Fellow will be trained as per guidelines of the Indian Association of Cardiac Imaging (IACI) in Cardiac Magnetic Resonance (CMR) imaging and Cardiovascular CT.
