Fellowship in Gastrointestinal and Liver Pathology (FGIL Path) at Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences & Research Centre, Kochi

This is a 2 year Fellowship program aimed to provide a comprehensive understanding of the spectrum of adult and paediatric gastrointestinal, pancreatic and hepatobiliary pathology and to competently handle issues that arise in routine and specialty/referral practice. The Fellowship will be awarded by Amrita University after successful completion of theory and practical exam at the end of the 24-month training program.






The objectives are enumerated below :

  • To increase knowledge and experience in neoplastic and non-neoplastic diseases that primarily or secondarily affect the gastrointestinal tract, pancreas and liver in both adult and paediatric patients.
  • To strengthen diagnostic skills in gastrointestinal and liver pathology by interpreting histological findings in the light of clinical presentation and laboratory data and with the full awareness of the potential clinical impact of the diagnosis and differentials.
  • To independently evaluate intraoperative consultations.
  • To gain exposure in transplant pathology.
  • To understand the utility of ancillary techniques available for the accurate assessment and diagnosis in the field of gastrointestinal and liver pathology, such as special histological stains, immunohistochemistry and molecular studies.
  • To gain experience in FNA cytology of liver and pancreas.
  • To understand the role of molecular science for disease characterisation, prognostication and therapeutic benefits.
  • To develop an appreciation of the multidisciplinary team approach to the treatment of patients with these diseases.
  • To enhance teaching abilities through interaction with pathology trainees, students and clinicians.
  • To gain experience in research techniques, write up research protocols and utilize these techniques to complete research projects.

Eligibility Criteria

Essential : Post - graduate training in pathology (MD / DNB)
Desirable : Demonstration of interest in GI Pathology
Duration of Program : 24 months

2nd International Robotic Surgery Workshop & Master Class

The Department of Gynecologic Oncology, Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences, a pioneering center for Robotic Gynecologic Surgery in India, welcomes you for the 2nd International Robotic Surgery Workshop and Master class in Pelvic Anatomy on 7th and 8th October 2017.

Minimal access surgery is now the standard of care for most benign gynecologic procedures, endometrial cancer and cervical cancer. This has led to the improvement in patient care and satisfaction. Robotic surgery is the latest minimally invasive surgical tool available that helps surgeons to do complicated surgeries with ease.

We need to constantly update ourselves about the recent advances and at the same time our foundation, for which our knowledge of anatomy needs to be strong. This programme is a sincere effort dedicated to deliver the most recent concepts and teachings in minimally invasive surgery on one hand while reconnecting with pelvic and retroperitoneal anatomy on the other hand. Fellowship in Accident Care and Transport Medicine (FATM)

Introduction to the program

The Fellowship in Accident Care and Transport Medicine (FATM) is a one-year course offered with 12 months of in-hospital and pre-hospital training. Admissions will be taken in the month of June-July. Candidate should submit the prescribed application form duly completed along with 3 passport-sized photographs and an attested copy of the degree/registration certificate on or before the prescribed last date. At the end of 12 months after successful completion of theory and practical exam the candidate will be awarded the degree.



MBBS with registration with the corresponding medical council.


12 months of training, in Emergency Medical Services area and Intensive Care areas.

Goals and Objectives

At the completion of fellowship training, the EMS physician will be competent to:

  • Rapidly assess patients within the limitations of the prehospital environment
  • Formulate and execute a field treatment plan for prehospital patients
  • Utilize knowledge of evidence-based best practices to provide medically sound treatment for care of patients in the prehospital setting
  • Provide longitudinal care during transport of the patient from the point of initial contact to arrival at a definitive care facility
  • Provide an effective transition of patient care to personnel at the definitive care facility
  • Determine the appropriate definitive care facility in accordance with clinical, operational and logistical exigencies
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the variants and special circumstances of practice in the prehospital environment
  • Demonstrate proficiency with special equipment used in EMS
  • Develop a working knowledge of the differences in equipment and stabilization procedures utilized in the prehospital environment compared to that used in hospital settings
  • Analyze and design scientifically and ethically sound research protocols to improve the quality of prehospital care
